I sat under the stars, watching them. They twinkled high above my head, thousands and thousands spread out in the blue-black sky. I prayed on a bright glowing star. I prayed this was a dream, that I would wake up and everything would be alright again. I watched the celestial ball of light, hoping for some kind of sign it had heard me. I wasn't really certain if that's what was supposed to happen when you wished on stars. My parents had always told Mabel and I not to participate in things so ridiculous as talk to stars. But right now, I couldn't think of much else to do.
